Legal Aid Billing Assistant – (Family Department)

London/Hybrid

Circa £25,000

Our client, a prominent Legal 500 firm, is currently seeking a dedicated Legal Aid Billing Assistant to join their busy and expanding Family Department. This role offers the opportunity for ongoing training and career development within a supportive and growing multi-office team. Their offices foster a friendly environment and operate entirely paperless, with recent investments in modern IT infrastructure to facilitate proficient work.

The successful candidate may be based at one of the following locations or opt for a hybrid working model after an initial training period:

  • Birmingham
  • Black Country (Oldbury)
  • Hertfordshire (St Albans)
  • Kent (Canterbury & Margate)
  • Leeds
  • London (Barnet, Croydon, East Dulwich, Hammersmith, Woolwich)

 

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in using the Legal Aid Agency Client and Cost Management System (CCMS).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills: Ability to prioritise tasks effectively to manage high volumes of billing activities efficiently.
  • Exceptional communication skills: Clear and professional verbal and written communication to convey complex information effectively.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review communications from the Legal Aid Agency for fee earners in the Family Department, including actions, notifications, and communications about High-Cost Case Plans.
  • Save Legal Aid Agency communications on our case management system and collaborate with Family Department staff as needed.
  • Oversee the Family Department claims process for disbursements and invoices from experts to the Legal Aid Agency, coordinating with experts, our Accounts Department, and fee earners when necessary.
  • Assist in the allocation of Counsel fees on the CCMS.
  • Coordinate with our Costs & Billing Team, the court, and council chambers as required.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Family Department and the Costs Team for file closures and transfers for billing.
  • Provide support to the wider Costs Department with billing of Family files when needed.
